i'm (obviously) not black, but i do think there is truth with that. it sounds silly to the outsider, but i can sort of understand that. it's kind of like, "how chinese are you?" or "how black are you?" and attaching some sort of physical attribute to how authentic you are to your own community.

Second roofth's comment. Actually Beyonce also has gone through a fair amount of $#%^ from the community because she's a light tan. Obama's also been criticized for being disconnected from the Af.Am. community because he's upper-middle class and living in some suburb or whatnot.

Isn't it amazing how within race there's such a price set on skin color. Like asian people with their huge cosmetic industry based on facial masks/special lotions/cleansers to whiten the skin.

Then there's a number of caucasians with the spray-on tans, tanning salons, suntan lotion thing going on. Belief that it's bad to be pasty white, looks unhealthy, means you never go outside, probably some recluse, blah blah.
